6 Must have Tools for Homeowners

Over the years I have been in real estate and being a homeowner myself I have found that every home, whether it is an older property or a new-build, requires some level of maintenance that you need to keep on top of. Things break or need changing, having your own set of tools will save you time and money reducing the need for a handyman for all the little jobs that you know you can easily handle yourself.

Here’s my list of 6 must have tools that every homeowner needs to help save money in the long run:

  1. Cordless drill

Save yourself some serious elbow ache and get a cordless drill! It makes installing cabinets, hinges, shelves, hooks and more so much easier. It also comes in useful for little DIY projects around the house as well. I guarantee you’ll use a cordless drill every month!

  1. General Tools

You need a basic little tool box which includes:

  • Hammer
  • Screwdrivers (flat and cross head)
  • Pliers (Visegrips are a great all-round tool)
  • Sandpaper
  • Assortment of Screws & nails
  • Tape Measure
  1. Drain cleaners

These ingenious little devices go right into the drain and pull out all the hair and bits that clog the drain. They’re made of hard plastic so they’re easy to reuse which makes them more environmentally friendly. And a much more affordable option than having to constantly purchase drain unblocking liquids, which often leave behind a nasty chemical smell. These drain cleaners are available on Amazon or a local hardware store.

  1. Shop-vac

The best thing about a shop-vac is that it can handle wet and dry messes. This is essential to save you having to clean up those inevitable spills or pet accidents that happen, especially when there’s liquid involved with broken glass.

  1. Loppers

Reduce the overwhelm of garden maintenance with a good quality pair of loppers. Loppers make it easy to stay on top of the garden upkeep from broken branches, hedges or overgrown patches with unruly plants.

  1. Flashlight

I know you can use your iPhone light but sometimes you’re going to need something a little more powerful. Invest in a flashlight so you can easily tackle those jobs in dark spaces, without worrying you might drop your phone when you’re in a tight crawl space!

This little tool kit will help you tackle the basic home projects and repairs that come up and hopefully save you the cost and frustration of having to call a handyman every time you need to fix the smallest thing!
